Meet our fashion styling graduate Sinead

May 11th, 2012

Sinead is a graduate from our FETAC Fashion Styling course, here she talks about her experience on the course.

The Fashion Styling course at LA Creative Academy has truly exceeded expectations.

I have really gotten a feel for the many various roles a stylist can undertake and the realities of the career.
Throughout the course we have received hands-on experience, endured practical tasks and delivered on professionally organised photo shoots.
Although there has been pressures along the way, everything we have covered has been completely geared towards establishing ourselves in our careers as stylists.
Learning from an industry professional, gaining opportunities to speak with the guest speakers and pushing ourselves out of our comfort zone to further and enhance our own status make this course extremely good and well-advised.

Students go to India!

May 10th, 2012

LA are delighted to welcome back two of our students that have just arrived home from their trip to India!

They went for a 2 week trip in aid of LA’s ‘Beyond Skin Foundation’ to teach young students over there classes on make-up artistry. The two students that ventured on this life changing trip were Lydia O’ Callaghan and Roisin Carroll both students from our 1 Year specialist course. Here they are photographed along with some of the students (Roisin left/Lydia right).

Both Lydia and Roisin have described their visit to India as an amazing and unique experience.  They stated how it was “surreal for us to be there as we are not used to people being so fascinated by the colour of someone’s skin.”They were treated as fascinating creatures and almost celebrity like by some of the locals!

However over their stay they grew really close with their students becoming life long friends.

In their classes with the girls they not only taught them but they feel they’ve learned so much from their students also. “The girls taught us about their traditions and we showed them how we decorate our bodies with piercings and tattoos, they were shocked that our tattoos are permanent and our tongues are pierced!” “We finished up the afternoon by showing the girls photos of our college work and our western style back in Ireland. They were blown away by our special effects and the work we have done.”

At the end of their trip the students in India had graduated with an LA Academy Certificate which the girls presented to them.

Lydia and Roisin wanted to thank LA for being able to offer them this experience and Lydia was kind enough to write us this message summarizing her venture to India:

“We would like to thank LA creative academy for bringing this life changing opportunity to our attention and most importantly picking us to go over to represent the college which we did with pride. India is a magical place, full of such beauty and the most amazing people we could of ever befriended. Our time there felt so short but every second is filled with memories we will keep with us for a lifetime.
Teaching came so naturally as all the girls were so welcoming , they were quick to learn and blew us away with the looks they turned out on our final few days.
I feel it’s important for people not to hear about it and rather go over and experience it. It’s amazing what a difference we made on everyone’s life we touched but it’s unbelievable the difference they made to my life.
I’ll be sure to go back as soon as possible :)

We just want to thank the two girls again for travelling to India in aid of our Beyond Skin Foundation. We are very proud to have had them represent us in India.

Hila Karmand on Xposé!

April 26th, 2012

Our very own Hila Karmand was on TV3′s Xposé during the week as she recreated a Rihanna look! Hila is one of our pro celebrity make-up artists! She has done work on celebrities such as Alicia Keys, Penelope Cruize, not forgetting the woman herself Rihanna and she even toured with Prince as his artist on his European tour!  You can catch her working her magic with one of Rihannas looks here:

Rihannas look is always flawless! Hila has taken inspiration from Rihannas “What my Name” music video with her pretty pastel look thats very on trend this season!

She uses gorgeous soft lilacs for her eyes and blush pinks for her cheeks and lips. Hila has used a bright pink LA lipstick here. However she demonstrates a great tip of how she has simply blended the lippy with some concealer to brighten the shade. This can even be done with your red lipstick!

Finally Hila has also used long LA individual Lashes to give a lengthening but natural look for a beautiful bright eye.

For all the inside tips on how to achieve this look simply check out the video tutorial provided. We look forward to seeing your take on it ; )

Block Party Season!

April 23rd, 2012

Bring out the attention-seeker in you this Spring/Summer with one of the hottest trends – Colour Blocking! For those of you unsure of the definition of colour blocking, it is an outfit or garment that is composed with various solid blocks of coloured fabric. This is a trend that has been around forever, however this season you can really mix it up and be adventurous with your colour choices as its hotter than ever!

Many designers have gone for this trend this season, many choosing these bold statement shades as seen above. However this may be too attention grabbing for some of you, designers such as Mulberry have taken this style and paired it with another hot trend this season, pastels! As long as your colours are highly pigmented you can have fun and experiment with all different shades.

This is a very flexible trend as the colour blocking look can be worn on clothes, handbags, shoes and accessories so its very easy to be on trend this Spring. Many celebrities have been spotted displaying this stunning trend such as Rihanna and Katy Perry seen below with very dramatic eye catching colours.

Katy Perry can be seen here again to be trending this look but with an even bolder choice, as she’s seen here looking fabulous in electric neon shades.

Colour blocking isn’t only one of the biggest trends this season for the ladies, its also trending for men as well. Marc by Marc Jacobs has designed a range of gorgeous cashmere cardigans in bright block colours.

So ladies now you and your other half can be the trendiest couple going! ; ) This season ditch them dull winter clothes and get out there strutting your stuff in these beautifully bright and fun colours!
