Epitome of Elegance….

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

“Love inspired them. Passion consumed them” and so let us introduce the much antipicated fashion fueled romantic movie of the year, Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky in cinemas nationwide last Friday.

The film focuses on Gabrielle Bonheur “ Coco” Chanel’s life after Boy’s death (1920), and more specifically on her passionate but short lived love affair between the French fashion legend and the Russian composer Igor Stravinsky. They were truly avant-garde, individualists way ahead of their time, brilliant, modern pioneers of their chosen fields. Coco Chanel provided controversy to the fashion world by questioning femininity in which she gave women a fresh and innovative alternative to the fussy and corseted style that was the norm around that time by incorporating designs that were inspired by menswear. Shirts, trousers and tailored jackets featured heavily in her collections.Who could forget the infamous Chanel jacket a wardrobe staple that transends into modern day, a Chanel suit of 1923 or Chanel handbag is still seen as a landmark purchase for women of increasingly younger ages.

Her style is one of which will never date, her classic and chic approach to style is iconic, from her use of monochrome to her oversized costume pearls, everything is still continuously referenced. As she herself once said: “Fashion fades, only style remains the same.”
So great is Coco Chanel’s legacy that fans make pilgrimages to her Paris apartment , which is preserved as she left it and is endlessly referenced for style. The latest being the brand new Chanel Shoe Salon, opening in September designed as a replica of the apartment inself. From her use of monochrome to her oversized ‘costume’ pearls and cuffs, everything is still sublimely, continuously referenced. As she herself once said: “Fashion fades, only style remains the same.”

The costumes are obviously amazing, especially considering Chanel opened their archives for the occasion thanks to Karl Lagerfeld.
Former model Anna Mouglalis is perfectly cast as Coco Chanel.

The French actress, who has worked with Chanelfor eight years and is currently the face of the label’s Fine Jewellery.

Coco Chanel was the epitome of sophisticated style and class; she was a truly elegant woman who always presented herself beautifully.

If you live for all things fashion, adore a good period costume film, love Chanel and 1920s fashion like us this movie is not to be missed!

Doesn’t she look lively…

rexfeatures_1213257f_e_e16039f43d322e1bcb3fe8e3a2b29c2fBlake Lively looked absolutely preened to perfection at last night’s premier of Twelve in New York, the new movie which stars her Gossip Girl co-star Chace Crawford. We’re used to seeing Ms. Lively in the hottest designer ensembles but we were particularly green with envy as we clapped eyes on the actress in a Chanel dress from the fabulous Chanel Resort Collection 2010 that was unveiled in St. Topez back in May. She teamed the navy wool dress with nude Louboutin’s sling backs, an effortless ponytail and dewy make-up.
rexfeatures_1213268j_e_e16039f43d322e1bcb3fe8e3a2b29c2fBlake knows that to get that natural flawless look a girl has got to put the effort in.
Her Make-Up Look spans from top to toe. To start with she has applied a light instant tanner that has a soft shimmer to really capture the light, perfect for a hint of a sun kissed glow. A reliable favourite is Rimmel Sunshimmer, make sure you go for the fair bottle as the really fake tan look is not hot right now.
Blake’s foundation looks airbrushed. If us mere mortals want to get this look it is all about perfect blending. Invest in a good foundation brush like the MAC 187 Duo Fibre brush. Its unique bristles softly smooth and polish your foundation. Also don’t forget to wear primer underneath your foundation as this will even out your skin tone and make the foundation last much longer.
Blake has a light shimmery colour on the inside corners of her eyes and just under the brow bone. A taupe colour is applied to the sockets of the eye and blended outwards to elongate her eyes, it is also brought under the bottom lash line to define her eye. Try Lancome’s Ombre Duo Eyeshadow in Ivory Opulence. The inside of her eye was lined with a skin colour pencil, which helps to eliminate any redness and makes the eyes appear more open.
For a more dramatic look team mascara with fluffy glamorous eyelashes like the LA Make-Up Academy Lashes which define the eye and create volume in the lashes.
A flush of colour was added to the apples of her cheeks, which helps to make her look healthy and fabulous. If you had to bring one thing to a desert island, it should be blusher! It can make anyone look healthier and more radiant. I love Nars blusher in Orgasm.
Blake has gone for a girly pink, this lip colour suits most skin types and is a great look with a more dramatic eye. Try Estee Lauder’s Hydra Lustre Lipstick in Pink Champagne for a kissable expensive lip.
Release your inner Blake and try this flawless look. Let us know how you get on.

Colour me bright….

00170mThings have got a whole lot more interesting in the brow department for Autumn/Winter 2010 as predicated by LA’s very own Astrid Kearney back in February.

00340mThe runway displayed an array of pastal coloured eyebrows as seen here on the Balenciaga catwalk from shades of blue to green to citrus yellow.

00300m

Pat Mc Grath was the key artist for the show, she kept the entire face super clean, with just a touch of baby pink blush and a hint of pink on the lips. The perfect canvas for such unique brows!

What do you think of this new trend? Love it or hate it?

Poolside at L.A….

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

L.A.’s fashion A-listers partied poolside last night to celebrate Mulberry’s Autumn/Winter 2010 collection.

Alexa Chung wore her heart on the nails, literally working the nail art craze donned by a host of our favourite stars such a Rhianna, Beyonce and Katy Perry. We were in awe in the LA office as we clapped eyes on Ms. Chung, we’re loving her relaxed California look, check out that silk Mulberry blouse and shorts combo teamed with that glowing tan. Very LA chic!
