Another Icon joins MAC

Monday, January 9th, 2012

Iris Apfel is an octogenarian fashion maven. Her flair with colour and accessories and her remarkable wardrobe was the subject of an exhibition, Rara Avis: Selections from the Iris Barrel Apfel Collection (Rara Avis = Rare Bird), at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2005. The show featured 82 ensembles and more than 300 accessories, chosen from a wardrobe amassed over the last 50 years

Her style has inspired books, jewellery ranges, museum exhibitions and many a student’s embarkation on a career in fashion.

At the tender age of 90, Iris Apfel is now taking on the world of make-up, delivering her inimitable eccentricity to the fashion-driven – and far younger – crowd who usually shop at MAC.

The self-described “geriatric starlet” has seen a recent resurgence in the public eye thanks to her fashion line on HSN & in keeping with this line, the MAC collection is full of bombastically bright lipsticks, attention-grabbing nail lacquers and unambiguous hues of eye-shadow.

Perhaps at odds with many of her peers’ tastes, the palette she has chosen for the line is as contemporary as ever, with a hot pink lipstick that would not look out of place on another of the make-up company’s fans, Nicki Minaj.

Gemstone-like green, shocking pink and scarlet sit alongside no holes-barred dark grey, blue and orange.

On aging:

Getting older ain’t for sissies, I’ll tell you…You have to push yourself when you’re older, because it’s very easy to fall into the trap. You start to fall apart—you just have to do your best to paste yourself together. I think doing things and being active is very important. When your mind is busy, you don’t hurt so much.

The Rare Bird collection is available at MAC stores now, the LA team have already picked our favourite lipstick but we hear they’re selling out fast so we’re keeping this one to ourselves until it’s safely stowed away in our make-up bags!

Let us know what you think of MAC’s newest muse!

Armani Holiday 2011 Collection

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

So we have all been wowed by MAC’s Glitter & Ice collection for the holiday season so now its time to check out the new collection from Armani!

Armani Cosmetics Creative Director Linda Cantello describes the Madre Perla collection “Like a 1930’s boudoir….A touch of lacquer patinated metals add a sophisticated feel to satiny, pearlescent tones. Delicate shades reminiscent of the silk lingire of the time”

Like many of the holiday collections we have seen so far the Madre Perla is all about silver & gold shades giving an antique gilted look to the collection.

Thanks to Colorfil color matrix, these creamy, powder-free shadows adhere to the eyelid like a second skin without fading or flaking. The result: a vibrant film of colour, as if cast in metal which stays true for 24 hours. Exactly what you want when you’re getting ready for a night out!

This range includes eye & face Madre Perla Palette with a very limited  3000 in a special decorated case, eye palette with ivory, taupe & lavender shades, Eyes to Kill shadows in silver, gold and grey & gold as well as four lipglosses.

Megan Fox is the face of Armani & we have no doubt that her stunning images in these ads would encourage anyone to make a dash for the Armani counter! With so many new collections coming our way it’s going to be tough to narrow down our Christmas list!

What do you think of the Madre Perla colelction?

Twilight on the Black Carpet

Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

The day has finally come for Twilight fans around the world. The premiere of the penultimate film in the Twilight saga has premiered in Los Angeles.

Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart & Taylor Lautner took to the black carpet at the Nokia Theatre in L.A on Monday night to promote the fourth installment in the franchise – Breaking Dawn: Part One.

With slim fitting grey & navy suits, the Twilight men certainly scrubbed up well. Kristen Stewart vamped it up in a long purple & black sequinned gown with a thigh-high split. Her make-up was quite minimal rocking bare lips & a light blush with a purple smokey eye to compliment her dress.

She had her hair swept back in a loose up-do which really showed off her look. This was a much cleaner look to what we usually see from her & the LA team think she looked stunning.

With other stars like Kendal & Kylie Jenner, Lea Michelle& Ashley Tisdale making their way up the black carpet it really was an event to watch.

Will you be making your way to see the new release?

Let us know!
