LA Make-Up Dublin is excited to announce that we are launching a new LA Beauty Therapy course. The students will learn a range of exciting treatments and we’re really looking forward to working with them!
Minx Manicures: This is just one of the fabulous techniques they will be learning with us! You might have seen this funky metallic look on Beyonce! You start with a fabulous collection of stickers which you can mix and match to create your own unique look for your nails. Each hand can be different, and you can even change the design from finger to finger. The look is created with a super-thin strip of film adhesive so no messy liquids. There is a lot of heat involved and as our students are learning you need a steady hand. But the end result is just total bling!
Designs can be plain, criss-crossed, glitter or a full-on metallic shine for your nails. You can go for a jungle look with leopard-stripes and some technicians also offer images like Barack Obama. Wonder if Brian Cowen would look good on our hands? Ummm, maybe not! Perfect for a special night out, they can last for up to 8 days. But remember they are stuck-on so if you want them to last, be careful!
Tell us what you think of the Minx look!

Here at LA Make-Up we’ve been thinking a lot about make-up for the holidays but we were also excited to see the glamorous outfits our favourite celebs were wearing over the break.
We liked Drew Barrymore in this sequined number because we know you can find something similar in Top Shop. Who needs to spend hundreds on designer clothing when the same thing is just down the street. And of course Pennys, our guilty secret, has been rocking the sequin look all season.

Emma Watson shows in this golden number that she’s left her Hogworths uniform far behind her.

And if you’d like to see some more funky gowns, have a look at Marie Claire’s Best Dresses of the Decade or WOW.ie’s Best Dressed of 2009.
Which dresses caught your eye over the break?

Goodness, how cold is it in Dublin this week? We know that our Make-up Resolution was to work more interesting make-up looks every day but it’s so hard to get up! A full-on lipstick application takes some time but if you really want to stay in a bed for a few extra minutes, get out the lip-gloss. This means you can get an easy shine and more polished look in seconds.
Plus it’s an affordable treat for January. We hope you all got those lovely products you wanted from Santa but just because the New Year is here doesn’t mean we should stop spending … just a little. A clear gloss like the L’oreal Kiss-Proof Ultra-Glossy gives a good shine, or a less-pricy product like No 7 High-Shine will get out off to a great start in the AM. And if you have a little more dosh leftover, these L’Absolu glosses on Beaut.ie go for €23 a-piece. Just try to avoid smearing on too much as your hair will get all caught up which is never a good look.
If you’re doing some online shopping, then the Lucas PawPaw Ointment is Australia’s best-kept secret; perfect for fighting the wind and preventing chapped lips.
Take this Lip Gloss Test on I-Village to find your perfect gloss!
Which lip gloss do you wear?

Yes, that’s right London Town is a-calling. We have already had a really great course over there; the Ultimate Pro Intensive Course. We know those of you who went on that just loved the tutors and the whole experience.
Students worked on Airbrush techniques, catwalk and high fashion looks as well as creating looks for brides and models from different ethnic backgrounds. They all wrapped up with a high-energy photoshoot to kick-start their portfolio. So now we’re ready to launch officially! The LA Make-Up London Academy is in St Johns so easy to access and an exciting area for students to be in. We offer the same high standards and professional tuition as we do in Dublin and LA so no matter where you study you’re guaranteed to leave ready for a successful career. There are so many opportunities for make-up artists in London that you’d be crazy not to try it.
Check back here and on the LA Facebook page for updates on the classes we will be offering in London from February 2010 .

Even the make-up experts here at LA Make-Up in Dublin, London and LA think they can do better every year. These are some of the thing we’ll be better in 2010!
Trying New Looks!
It’s easy to get stuck in a rut and amble along with the same products. But there are so many new products out there; try one a week and see what happens.
Changing Colours
Yes, brown is a nice safe look for our eyes. But do we want to look safe all the time? Read the magazines for inspiration and rock those colours.
Wearing More Makeup
It can be such an effort sometimes to look good but it’s so worth it! Let’s all try to get up a few minutes earlier and get it right.
Cleaning out Our Makeup Bags
We all have empty product tubes and boxes sitting at the back of the makeup kit; time to clean them up and start the New Year with a new set.
Following a Cleansing Routine
We all know we should eat more fruit, drink more water and use a gentle cleaner but do we do it every week? Let’s begin now!
Using the Right Tools
Fingers are OK for some products but really we’re all grown-ups now and we should invest in some brushes. Start with one and aim to have a full set for this time next year!
Finding New Clients
If you’re a makeup artist then make this the year you find a new direction, look for clients who will challenge you at work. Talk to other people in the industry and network, network, network.
What are your New Year’s Resolutions?
