LA London…

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Hello from London! My career with LA Make-Up Academy has brought me here and let me tell you,for a make-up junkie, it’s been difficult. From Selfridges to John Lewis and everything in between, I want it all.
There are so brands here that aren’t in Ireland. Brands like Shu Uemura, MAC Pro stores and Liz Earle skincare are all here.
Shu Uemera really does live up to it’s name. The products are named simply to avoid confusion and the brushes are amazing quality. I asked the sales person on this counter what the top products are and he said the skincare, the cream products like liner and shadows ,which can be mixed, and his favourite is the primer. Now this is something that got my attention. A water based primer that has SPF and is a mousse!

This product really is fantastic. It evens out redness and works to improve your skin instead of just masking. This is a product that will make sure skin feel like you are doing it a favour. I think I have found my new favourite primer.

So from Selfridges, my journey has taken me to the Make-up Store, that offer a swanky 20% off to graduate make-up artist’s, the MAC Pro-Store and to the nicest Bobbi Brown counter in John Lewis that I have ever seen. The sales girl was stunning and I was partially speechless when I saw how beautiful she was. Her foundation was flawless, her false eyelashes were applied perfectly and she was such a lovely person.
And don’t forget stores like Screenface and Charles Fox for all of your professional make-up needs.

So what could London mean to a make-up artist?

London has a cool style that is funky, trendy and alternative. Everyone is themselves and doesn’t follow the norm. I think has a make-up artist, it is inspiring as you will be encouraged to be true to yourself and let your real style out.

So what does London mean to me?
Oppourtunity, open-minded people and shops that will make your credit card bleed.
So until next time, follow the London way and be true to yourself.

Faces: Get the glow part 2

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

Currently in the market, you will find a number of different highlighters. I think these products are made to confuse customers. They come in a number of different consistencies from creams to powders to a watery liquid.

Have ever looked at a model or an actress and wonder how they have such a healthy and natural glow? Even with their work schedule , they appear to be oozing health and look fabulous every day. They have the secret of using highlighters. They most likely have a make-up artist to lather them up with highlighter to give them that ultimate sheen. Jennifer Aniston or Kim Kardashian is a perfect example.

Highlighters reflect the light and if applied correctly, can highlight a feature on your face/body that you want to enhance. Application is really key. If applied correctly, highlighters bring you a magnificent glow and make you look and feel refreshed and ready to take on your day.

That brings me to Faces Metaliglow. This award-winning light textured liquid potion had two key functions. With its quick drying consistency and non- smudging capabilities, this has been voted “Top Eye Primer” by Faces customers. This will hold your eyeshadow in place and prevents creasing. Metaliglow can be used as a shimmer on the lids, a highlight on the cheeks/ body and can be added to your foundation before application to give you a natural glow all over your face.

The one point I would say to watch out for is if you are applying Metaliglow to your cheek bones, apply it over or with your foundation and before you apply powder. As it is a liquid, it wont sit well on top of your face powder and will end up looking very obvious and blotchy.

Metaliglow comes in 4 different colours so there is a shade to match every skin tone. This product is under €20 and is long lasting.

My final review about Faces Cosmetics is on their eyeshadow and blusher palettes. Palettes play a huge role in the kit of a make-up artist. If you are running from a photoshoot-to-a film , an after party to-fashion show, your kit needs to be as efficient as possible. If Naomi Campbell approaches you backstage at a fashion show to fix her eyshadow, she will not wait around while you search through your kit bag for your perfect eyeshadow for her.

Everything needs to be where you can see it and you need to be able to grab it quick. So having a number of palettes saves so much stress. If you colour code your palettes for example keep all your neutral shades on one palette, all of your high fashion bright shades in another it is easy to plan out what make-up you will need for certain events. If you get the opportunity to work on a news presenter, they mightn’t require your palettes of neon colours.

Palettes also look really professional and don’t take up very much space.

Faces offers you multiple sized palettes from 4 eyeshadows- 24 shadows You also have the option to add a blush to your palette.

Faces eyeshadows come in a fab range of colours in matte and shimmer and this is an investment in either your kit or your own make-up collection.

So if you want to get your teeth into a different brand, give Faces a try.

Until next time, don’t be afraid of colour when it comes to your make-up. It’s all around you every day so embrace it.
