Halloween Open Day

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

img_0798Can you believe it’s Halloween time already? And you know what that means: time to dress up and scare the good people of Dublin.

Our make-up artists love Halloween and they have some fantastic ideas for you. Last year you may have grabbed one of our Special Effects Halloween Packages! And this year we’re going one step further; we’re holding a Halloween Open Day just for you.

You can be anything you like from a scary but glamorous witch to a zombie weeping with blood. We can do gothic fairies and geishas or even turn you out to walk like an Egyptian. Bring your man along to get some nasty wounds or scars to toughen up his Halloween outfit too. Our artists will take your ideas and turn them into reality – just like in the movies! Pop on one of your favourite horror flicks for some inspiration beforehand or just come and see us; trust us if you dare!

If you want to get an idea of how fabulous you could look; log onto our Flickr stream and see what our students got up to for their work experience last week. And that’s just our beginners so with some expert help we can really turn you into something amazing.

The work experience was at The Loft Fashion Show and our students from the Module 3 course certainly rose to the challenge! It was great to see the new season’s lines and so exciting to see our students working away. The got to use everything they’ve learned and really showed us what a great future they’ll have in the industry.

But just to show we can be serious too when we have to be; one of our make-up experts was chatting to you on Monday about politics. Surprised? Well, you might remember reports last year on Bertie Ahern’s make-up budget. We have to admit we’re a little jealous of his deep pockets. Think what we could do with that money down in BT! We sent one of our artists to Spin FM to discuss the whole affair. Log onto the Spin FM site for the podcast and tell us what you think!

In the meantime, it’s countdown to Halloween. We’re open all day on Saturday, October 31st for you to come and scare your friends! But places are going fast so click here to book your place! We guarantee a Halloween like no other!!

(NB: Appointments by booking only)

Who will you be on Halloween?

Fashion Week Make-Up Inspirations!

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

fashion-weekClothes and Make-Up go together like a horse and carriage, oh wait that’s marriage isn’t it? Well the Fashion Weeks just gone by, were definitely another sign of how fashion and make-up are so closely intertwined. Designers and make-up artists in Paris, London, New York and Milan worked together to create fabulous looks! And hopefully we can help you re-create these for yourself.

As you know we have a Fashion Stylist here just waiting for you. And she’s definitely been inspired by some of the make-up looks on the catwalks this year. In New York one of our favourite brands; NARS, created an impressive tribal look for designer Thakoon using contouring and defined eyes. Any of you studying in LA Make-Up will know how important bronzer is for creating the perfect facial shape. NARS were also in action at the Marc Jacobs show where they setup the darker side of fashion so there’s lots for you to choose from in their new Spring Collection.

MAC were one of the main sponsors of the London Fashion Week so it was no surprise to see their distinctive products up and down the catwalk. Vivienne Westwood worked with them to create a strong, tribal look with delicious plum lips all set for winter and early spring. And a surprise look from many designers was the emphasis on pink eyes! Yes that would be fuchsia and grenadine giving your winter look a soft pastel shot in the arm. Ungaro even had his models in two-tone pastel lips while NARS and Lancome created lots of light eyes during the show. Just remember when you try this at home to add on lashings of macara and strong eye-liner so you don’t look like a bunny rabbit caught in the headlights! Try the Second Skin Cheek Colour in Barely Pink by Laura Mercier on the apples of your cheek if the eyes are a step too far.

Of course if you want to go even more low-key than this, the other big look for the new season is No Make-Up At All. That’s right; spend hours getting ready just to look like you’ve nothing on at all. One of our favourite make-up bloggers Fabsugar has some photos so you can see if that rocks your boat.

LA Make-Up has a Fashion Breakthrough

Friday, August 21st, 2009

We were delighted to be involved again with the Fashion Breakthrough show. A week-long celebration of Irish fashion:who could resist?

The week kicked off with the opening of the Pop-up boutique on Cow Lane in Temple Bar. Not only are they selling fab gear from up and coming Irish designers but the designers themselves are on hand to give you some fashion advice. Open until Saturday so get down there if you haven’t already.

LA Make-up came in with the glam catwalk show ‘Uprising’ on Tuesday. Our staff had a great time at the April show and this one was no different. Hosted by Holly White and brimming over with Irish talent, our staff really enjoyed seeing new clothes from the young designers. And who were our staff? Only 8 of our own students going out for a unique work experience day along with our leading LA tutors.

Styled by Angela Scanlon and made up by our experts, the models looked fab as they sashayed down the catwalk in creations from Zoe Boomer, Sophie Rieu, Bebhinn Flood and 10 others. We saw everything from eco-textile designs to elegant knitwear. And of course a party afterwards with Alias Empire in true Irish style.

But the week wasn’t over yet. This week we were delighted to welcome Julia Francis , Europe’s leading body painter to the studios. She’s worked with celebs like Aishwarya Ray and Colin Firth and on campaigns for Harpers Bazaar and Saatchi & Saatchi as well as a roll-call of others. She held a body paint seminar for us on Wednesday. And on Thursday, she created something special for our photocall live on TV3′s Ireland AM.

You might have seen our models walking around in Dublin yesterday? Painted in the Union Jack and the Stars and Stripes to celebrate the launch of our new studios in Los Angeles and London: they were hard to miss!

Check back on our homepage for more information on what’s happening in the Dublin LA studios this week!
