Industry Interview – Amber Sibley

Monday, November 21st, 2011

Amber Sibley is an Oscar-nominated make-up artist, she has worked on some extremely high interest productions including X-Men, Alice in Wonderland & Hellboy.

We had the great pleasure of her presence as a guest tutor here at LA Academy last week & we grabbed the chance to have a quick sit-down with her to pick her creative brain!

You are a world-renowned make-up artist, what made you want to decide to get into make-up artistry?

I was 11, dreaming of the BBC!

Where did you study to pursue this career?

I studied at the London College of Fashion HND & I specialized in make-up.

What is it that you really love about make-up?

The attention to detail and use of colour as even Heshtone is full spectrum.

Who would you say were key influences when you were starting out?

Daniel Parker and Mark Coulier taught me the importance of observation.

What trends inspire you?

Sorry, I’m not a follower of Fashion.

Having worked on some of the biggest TV and Film sets in Hollywood, is there any advice or tips you would have for coping with the pressure from these demanding schedules?

If you’re passionate about what you’re doing it doesn’t feel like pressure. Also, remember to breathe deeply.

Are there any upcoming productions you would jump at the chance to work with?

I trust my path- I will be led to the right projects.

We know how fast paced the make-up Industry can be – how do you relax and take some “me time”?

I meditate, breathe, connect with nature.

Looking back, is there anything you would of done differently?

Nope!

If you were to give any piece of advice for someone looking to get into the make-up Industry, what would it be?

Believe in yourself and follow your heart!

From the LA Team we thank Amber for joining us last week & we can’t wait to work with her again soon!

Our favourite make-up looks from the Teen Choice Awards 2011

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

Hollywood was buzzing on Sunday night as the Teen Choice Awards were held. “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” “Gossip Girl,” “The Vampire Diaries,” “Glee,” Justin Bieber, Ashton Kutcher, Taylor Lautner and Selena Gomez were among the winners at Sunday night’s show.

The LA Team didn’t really mind who won what award; we were more interested in what everyone wore and what make-up trends were worn on the red carpet!

So here we have it- The LA Team‘s favourite make-up looks from the Teen Choice Awards 2011.

Twilight’s Ashley Grrene went for a simple natural eye and a strong lip. This plum lip colour has been seen across the Gucci catwalk this A/W 11.

Rachel Bilson, always on trend with her Ombre hair, kept her look young and fresh with a hint of coral blush.

Selena Gomez made her eyes the key point of her make-up look. With a natural lip, she looks young, fresh and very stylish.

Taylor Swift left her signature red lips for a coral coloured lip and blue eyes. This make-up look has been used by Dior for their A/W 11 shows.

Vanessa Hudgens kept her lips nude and wore a simple smokey eye which matched her colouring perfectly.

Kat Graham looked bang on trend for A/W 11 with her purple coloured eyes as colour is very much in this Autumn.

Tyra Banks usually looks amazing, but we think she overdid her make-up just a little this time. We think if she had kept her eye make-up simple, then she would have rocked the red lip look.

What did you think of the make-up on the night?

We always love to hear what our readers think.
