Milan Fashion Week

Monday, September 26th, 2011

Milan Fashion Week skyrocketed to an awe-inspiring pinnacle this weekend; with sleek contemporary whites and paisley print, forties-inspired shifts at Jil Sander to bewitching flamenco-infused, gypsy separates from Emilio Pucci on Saturday.

Yesterday saw Dolce & Gabbana’s tribute to the classically sensual Sicilian muse in sexy, printed sundresses with florally-laced embellishments – and the radiant Dolce & Gabbana muse herself, Scarlett Johansson was sitting pretty on the front row.

Marnishowed an intellectually conceived capsule of sharply tailored yet functional work shifts, separates and vibrant floral coats and finally Missoni’s escapist-inspired knits and animal print maxis had us all craving warmer climes – bring on the heat wave!

And there is still more to come today from Roberto Cavalli, Giorgio Armani & Gianfranco Ferre.

Who wore it best? Pippa v. Kylie

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

One of these girls is sisters with the future Queen of England and the other is the Austrailia’s sweetheart. Pippa Middleton has been papped constantly since she made quite the impression on the British Public at the Royal Wedding in April.

Kylie on the other hand is well used to having her picture taken by the paparazzi, having being Austrailia’s princess of pop music for decades now.

It is not ideal when a celebrity wears a dress and then another celebrity wears that same dress in a different city, but these two ladies both stepped out in London wearing the exact same jacket!

Pippa was running errands, then grabbed a coffee and posted some letters when she wore this dress!

Kylie was spotted on route to the gym, when she sported the same jacket as Pippa!

The question still remains though. Who wore it best? Let us know your opinion by commenting on our blog or on our Facebook page.

Who wore it best? Kelly v. Lake

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

As murphy’s law would have it, a girl willturn up in the same dress as you. This, for the mere mortal, is a terrible thing. Imagine how celebrities, who are papped at every chance feel, when their very designer dress is worn by another in the same month!

Kelly Rowland rocked this dress to her album launch party and looked amazing. As the hottest new judge on UK X-Factor, all eyes are on her for her style choices. If you have a body like Kelly’s why not rock a cut out dress like this Cushnie et Ochs number.

Actress Lake Bell looks good in pretty much everything, but when she turned up in the same Cushnie et Ochs dress as Kelly, we can only imagine either girl was not impressed. Lake wore this ensemble for the Los Angeles premiere of her new film, A Good Old Fashioned Orgy.

So the answer is up to you. It is undeniable that both girls have killer bodies and really wear this dress amazingly but who wore it better?

Let us know your thoughts!

Interview with Fashion Designer Claire O’Connor

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

Today our interview is with fashion designer Claire O’Connor. Claire is one of the Irish designers involved in Project 51, which is located at 51 South William St Dublin 2 this September. There are 14 Irish designers involved in the new concept which is devoted to providing its customers the very best from high end luxury Irish goods. The LA Team will be attending the official launch of Project 51, this Thursday 8th September as Dublin fashion festival kicks off!

Tell me about your latest collection& inspiration?

I have used a combination of silks including digital prints, to create very structured yet flattering clothes for the woman who can appreciate the intricateness of my work and is very fashion literate. As a designer I would say I’m a bit of London, a bit of Paris, as they both have a heavy influence on my work.

And how did you become interested in fashion? Did you study fashion?

I was nine years old, when I came across an article in Hello magazine about John Galliano, which blew me away, and decided I wanted to be just like him when I grew up. I studied at The Grafton Academy.

What is it about fashion that you really love?

There are few people in the fashion industry that when I look at their work I literally leave the planet for a few moments, which I absolutely love, and ultimately what I aspire to.

Who is your favourite designer? Favourite Irish designer?

Always has been, always will be John Galliano. My favourite Irish designer; definitely Philip Treacy

What is your favourite fabric to work with? What fabric do you hate to work with?

Digitally printed silks, leather and lace. I loathe cheap/bad quality fabric.

Who are your style inspirations?

Madeline Vionnet, Galliano, McQueen, Philip Treacy

Describe a typical day for you as a fashion designer.

Early rise, and then it’s fashion, fashion, and more fashion until about midnight, and I can’t wait until the next day.

What is it you love most about your job?

Making people happy, and I get to do what I love in the process. Everyone is a winner!

Where can people go to buy your designs?

The Design Centre, Powerscourt Townhouse Centre

Project 51, 51 South William St, Dublin 2

What are you most looking forward to during Dublin Fashion Festival?

I’m really excited about the official launch of Project 51

How long does it take to make a collection? From concept to design to production?

On average about 5 months

What is your favourite piece that you have ever created?

It changes from time to time but one that sticks out is a black leather dress, which I designed about 10 years ago, and people who have one still wear it as do I and love it! It’s timeless.

If you could dress one celebrity who would it be and why?

I would love to dress Lady Gaga, because I love to let my creative juices run riot, which she may appreciate.

Why are your designs different from other designers?

Because I like to think that my designs reflect me.

Do you have any advice to people wanting to embark on a career in fashion designing?

Persevere and you will reap the rewards.

VMAs 2011

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

The annual Video Music Awards were held on Sunday night in the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles and there were a few surprises, including  Beyonce announcing she is expecting and the introduction of Lady Gaga’s alter ego-Joe Calderone.

The LA Team of course are more interested in what everyone wore on the red carpet. So we have a few of our favourite looks for you from the awards ceremony.

Beyonce took to the red carpet in a a fiery orange Lanvin sheath from the Fall 2011 collection.

Adele looked demure in a Barbara Tfank midi-length dress.

Miley Cyrus looks beyond her years in a  full length Cavalli gown. Not very apt for the VMAs, we think!

JoJo teamed her Marco Marco mini with heels by Penelope & Coco

Zoe Saldana rocked the red carpet in a lovely black shift by Barbara Bui. This is definitely VMA appropriate. No gimmicks or costumes-just pure elegance.

Newly wed Kim Kardashhian chose a floor-sweeping Kaufman Franco gown with a plunging neckline

Having risen to fame through shows such as Nickelodeon’s Zoey 101, Victoria Justice has proven she has what it takes to take on Hollywood in the style stakes, with her dress from Theory and Rock and Republic shoes.

What do you all think?

Did you like the dresses?
