LA Review Illamasqua Bronzer in “Writhe”

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

Caoimhe Gaynor is a 1 Year Make-Up Specialist Course graduate who is now making a name for herself within the make-up industry. She has reviewed one of her favourite products exclusively for our LA Blog and she reveals her top make-up tips and secrets, that will help you achieve that perfect make-up look!

Have you ever wondered what the secret is behind  celebrities’ fantastically chiselled features and  fabulous bone structure? In most cases it isn’t perfect genetics but a very talented make-up artist.

As a make-up artist, contouring is crucial, and for most of us, is a secret weapon. It has the ability to completely transform the shape of your face and make your features ‘pop’. The best part about it all is that don’t need fancy equipment or expensive products. All you need is a bronzer and a blusher brush. It’s that simple.

Caoimhe’s favourite product to use at the moment is Illamsqua’s bronzer in “writhe”. I like this as it’s matt and carries more of a brown undertone as opposed to the abundance of orange toned bronzers that are tangoing the faces of Ireland at the moment! Illamaqua bronzer contains crushed pearl powder which gives the skin a flawless finish and a natural looking glow, this eliminates the possibility of making the face look dirty as so many bronzers have the ability to do.

The most effective way of contouring with this product is to use an angled blusher brush. It’s very simple.

Just take a small amount of bronzer and place it in the hollows of the cheek (work your way out from the ear towards the nose, this stops any build up and makes life a whole lot easier in terms of blending.)

Working your brush in a circular motion, blend the product upwards so you’re not left with a very apparent line on the face. Contouring should be as subtle and as natural as possible. This way, people will believe that you were born with an incredible set of cheek bones! The whole idea, and reason behind contouring, is to  create the ‘ideal’ face shape, that being oval. So depending on your face shape, you may feel the need to play around a bit and try applying bronzer to your jaw line, temples, nose, or forehead as well as the cheeks. Just remember,  dark shading detracts, so if there are any areas you feel you’d like to take the attention away from, contour, contour, contour!

For Caoimhe, the best thing about this product is that it can double up as an eye shadow and brow powder. Because of it’s unique colour tone, it is fantastic to use  in the socket in order to give the eye depth while still remaining quite natural. It is perfect for any day or subtle night time look.

Unfortunately, there  are no Illamasqua stores left in the republic of  Ireland since the store’s reluctant departure from Brown Thomas last year, BUT, fear not as it’s super easy to order online from the U.K (and a bit cheaper too!) This bronzer retails at £20, so even after converting to euros (approx. €24), it works out substantially cheaper than  similar bronzers on the market from  other leading brands. Check out their website at www.illamasqua.com.

Love,

Caoimhe @ LA

TOP TIP: In order to complete the ultimate contoured look, team this product with this amazing highlighter; MAC’s “Vanilla” pigment. Using a very small amount of highlighter above the shaded area can really create a contrast that will give you that glam, red carpet look in an instant. For just over €20, they’re a little more expensive, but one pigment pot will last you a long time so it is well worth the investment!

Illamasqua Autumn Winter Collection 2010 Part 2

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

One of Illamasqua’s most unique products has to be their blue Liquid Metal Stoic. This product is gloriously rich and is a highly pigmented cream. It has to seen to be believed. This product can be applied to the eyes, face and body and you can either use your fingers or a brush to apply it.

Illamasqua’s Autumn/Winter Collection ’10 have brought out 3 exciting new colours:

an electric royal blue -Superior

an emerald green

a burnt copper -Resolute

The royal blue colour caught my eye immediately and applied as a wash of colour over the eye looks stunning. Liquid metal can also be used as a liner or a pop of colour in the tear duct. So whether your look is subtle or you revel is the drama, liquid metal is essential for your alter ego this

Lips

When I started training as a make-up artist I set myself the task to find a blue lipstick. Unfortunately I never found one…until last week. The lipstick is called Disciple and by looking at it you would believe it was black. A little test on the back of your hand will show it’s dark blue/navy colour. I know most of us can be a bit intimidated by bold lip colour but I adore this lipstick and will definitely be wearing it this season. I hope it gives you the confidence to speak your mind! Finally, an intense lip-gloss in Hermetic to top off this collection. This colour is the same burnt copper colour I told you about previously.

Illamasqua’s intense lip-glosses are so highly pigmented and luscious that you will want to wear them every day. It gives you the colour of a lipstick and the shine of gloss but in one easy application. Topped off with a sweet scent, your make-up bag is crying out for one of these.

So from Illamasqua this season, you can expect bold colours, bolder statements and to die for products. I hope you enjoy this collection as much as I will!

Until next time, if you are stuck in a make-up rut, why not pop into LA for a luxurious makeover and a make-up bag revamp or why not both!

Make-Up

Illasmasqua offers a bright, springful joy this Autumn with their new collection. The vibrant colours of their products , their trend-defying looks and their message of “Make-Up for your alter ego” will stop you in your tracks. A brand completely different to anything you have ever witnessed. No matter what look you desire, Illamasqua will give you the inspiration to awaken your own alter ego.
So what can you look forward to in their AW’10 collection? Originality, amazing colours and exciting products to warm up your winter! Two main colours throughout this collection are an exciting emerald green and a bold burnt copper red. These two colours scream festivities and are sure to bring the sparkle back to your look.

Nails

Not to forget their creative nail colours, something Illamasqua has mastered with the help of Sophy Robson, the nail maestro behind the likes of Louis Vuitton and all the A-List stars. Two newshades in their collection include: a bad-ass petrol style copper that will bring electricity to your finger tips and the other, an envious green worthy of a place in the emerald city of Oz. So demand attention with your fingertips wherever you may roam with these products.

Body

Next up we have Powdered Metal in Ether. This is such a versatile product. The colour is a subtle metallic gold and can be used on the face and the body to give you that intense radiance that won’t go un-noticed. With this product you can create a subtle highlight or an intense metallic finish, whatever your alter ego wants. It can be applied on the cheek bones, under the brow and all over your body to give you that just back from holidays glow.

Next time I will be telling you about the rest of the AW’10 collection from Illamasqua and trust me, you can’t afford to miss it. It includes the lipstick colour I have always been searching for and liquid metals that will get your juices flowing. If you can’t wait that long why not pop into our LA Studios in Dublin to see our Illamasqua Kit.

Until next time, be bold and let your alter ego out.
