LA Make-Up loves the BAFTA Look

Monday, March 1st, 2010

kristen_stewart_up_for_2010_baftaYou know we love getting all dressed up and pretty here at LA Make up so we’re always jealous of the stars on their big nights out. And this is definitely the season for it all! The BAFTAs have got us all excited and in the mood for the big Oscar night next week. Didn’t you just love the style?
Of course all the nominees are pampered and primped together by make up artists, hair stylists and wardrobe stylists in the Dorchester BAFTA Style Suites. It could be you working in there one day!

Our favourite look was Kristen Stewart. The Twilight star just looked so sophisticated and her look was miles away from her usual lumber-jack and bed-head style. Voted the Orange Rising Star, Kirsten rocked a dark metallic combo. You could re-create this look using

  • Use a pale foundation to re-create that night-time look with a great primer like SmashBox underneath
  • Line the eyes with a liquid like the MAC Shadow Liner
  • Use a brown shadow with red tinges to give a deep smokey effect without being too dark. Try Benefit ‘Big Beautiful Eyes.’
  • Eyelure Lashes or Maybelline’s The Falsies.

We’ll leave the pedicure choice up to you!All the best looks are together here on Vogue UK. And if you want to get this look for your clients, try the Lancôme BAFTA Beauty Compact as seen on Marie Claire.

Professional Make-Up Palettes

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

_mg_0054Deep inside our make-up bags, every make up artist keeps some magic colours to save the day. When you’re working on a film-set or behind the scenes at a fashion show, you need to have the full range of colours and every shade under the sun. MAC have nearly twenty colours which you could call ‘brown’ for example – look here at the MAC eyeshadows and see if you can name them all! It’s a tough job but someone’s got to do it.

The easiest way to combine colours is to follow the experts’ advice and use palettes.

Did you ever hear the saying “No need to re-invent the wheel’? Well, that’s how we feel about palettes. Cinema Secrets is one of our favourite brands – you’ll love working with them, choose from foundation palettes and eyes on the Cinema Secrets website here or shop with us.   You can find colour collections for every occasion with Bobbi Brown here. Brides will love the Long Wear Eye Palette. And you’ll need some funky holders for all of that colour. Here at LA Make-Up we have everything you’ll need to start your make-up collection off; you can choose from two-colour cases, large artists’ palettes or palettes for eye shadow and blush together.

How do you store your powders and eye shadow?

Episode 4 – Celebrity Look Victoria Beckham. Part 2 of 4

Welcome to LA TV. We have a step by step 4 part episode of how to recreate Victoria Beckham’s signature makeup look. Sarah Jane Wai O Flynn works her magic and shows us her step by step guide on how to recreate look with her top tips included so keep your eyes and ears peeled! Posh’s makeup is understated, unlike her skyscraper heels.

The focus is on healthy-looking skin, nude lips and dark, sultry eye makeup. Or for day, you can do Posh-inspired smoky eye makeup that’s lighter simply by switching to pencil liner and skipping mascara. When all else fails, reach for oversized sunglasses to look like Posh as they tend to hide a multitude of flaws.
