As of 2009, Jeff has department headed the make-up departments on over thirty seven films. He specialises in action/adventure, futuristic/fantasy, war and period films including, seven with the actor, Dwayne 'The Rock (I)' (Qv) Johnson. Before 'Arnold Schwarzenegger' (Qv) became Governor, Jeff department headed 19 of Arnold's films. Jeff is the third generation make-up artist in his family.

His grandfather, 'Jack Dawn' (Qu), a make-up artist for over 35 years was the "Director of make-up" at MGM studios from 1935 to 1950 and responsible for over 100 films including The Wizard of Oz. Jeff's father, 'Robert Dawn' (Qu), was an Emmy Award winning film and TV make-up artist for over 35 years.

His uncle, 'Wes Dawn' (Qu), also worked in the industry as a make-up artist for approximately 35 years. In the fall of 2007 Jeff's son, Patrick Dawn, started film school at Chapman University in Los Angeles, California. Patrick will be the fourth generation filmmaker in the Dawn family.
