Hugh Chaloner has been working as a photographer and film editor for many years in Dublin, London and Los Angeles. Hugh was educated at Trinity College Dublin as an Electronic Engineer and embarked on his career in the world famous Windmill Lane Studios, working on projects with Guinness, U2, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and many others. After learning his trade at Windmill, Hugh has worked as a freelancer in Dublin, London and Los Angeles both as photographer and film maker.
A tendency toward private portrait and beauty photography has seen Hugh's portfolio expand enormously in the last decade but he has also been able to indulge his passion for travel, shooting advocacy assignments all over East and West Africa as well as some high-altitude expedition photography up Mount Kilimanjaro and Everest.
Shooting sessions for students in LA Make-up brings tremendous enjoyment, especially since there's so much variety both in make-up looks and culture, and for some students, English is not their first language. These sessions are often collaborative and serve as a springboard for subsequent working relationships.
Hugh also has a studio at Moxie.
5 best things in life for Hugh:
1. Family. My direct and extended family keep me on my toes and keep me on the straight and narrow. My dog gives me a pretty hard time too.
2. Food. If I wasn't a photographer, I'd be a cook. I get enormous pleasure out of cooking.
3. The Great Outdoors. I've been lucky enough to spend a few months on expeditions to far flung places on the globe - Mount Everest and Island Peak in the Himalayas, Mount Kilimanjaro, all over East and West Africa, all over Europe. The world is a big place and needs to be explored.
4. Photography. My passion for photography is unabated. Having picked up my first camera as an 11-year-old kid, I have seen the progression from film to digital and who knows what beyond?
5. Music plays an important part of my life, an essential component of relaxation.
